Our ten New Year's Eve breaks, cheapest first for two people: Rome (from about £990), Amsterdam (about £1,090), Madeira (about £1,130 for the gala, room extra), the Cotswolds (£1,270), Cornwall (£1,395), the Lake District (£2,640), Edinburgh (£3,800), Berkshire (£4,000), Yorkshire (£4,940) and Vienna (about £14,600).
The six UK New Years Eve breaks are full house-party packages: two or three nights, every meal, a gala dinner and fireworks at midnight, priced by the room. The four abroad are mostly a night or two with dinner and a party, so flights are on top. Vienna is the exception: four nights at the Sacher with the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Eve concert.
Book soon. Melville Castle's 2026 package near Edinburgh is already fully booked, most rooms at Cringletie House have gone, and several hotels here take the balance on 30 October, 1 November or 1 December, after which the money is usually not refundable.
Every price is the hotel's own, or a named seller's, read on 19 October 2026. Euro prices are converted at about £0.87. Where a page lists a 'from' price or does not say whether it is per room or per person, we say so under the item.

The fullest Hogmanay on the page. Three nights in a castle whose lower levels date back to the late 1200s, with a seven-course dinner, a ceilidh and fireworks of its own, and Highland Games and a whisky tasting the next day. It is adults only, which suits a couple or a group of friends.
Skip it if you want to be in the city at midnight. The castle is eight miles out, and its own fireworks replace the ones over Edinburgh Castle.
How to book it
Enquire through Celtic Castles, which lists every room type and price. Two room types are already gone. The page publishes no deposit or cancellation terms, so ask for them in writing before you pay.
Celtic Castles lists nine room types from £3,800 (Lodge Deluxe) to £5,300 (Feature Room), per room for the three-night package. Prices are 'subject to availability at the time of booking'.

Michelin Guide, on Forest Side
The one for a couple who would rather eat well than dance. Forest Side is a Victorian Gothic house in 43 acres whose restaurant holds a Michelin star, and the New Year's Eve dinner runs to eight courses before Champagne and fireworks. Three nights leaves time for a fell walk on New Year's Day.
Skip it if you want drinks included. The page says wine, cocktails and other drinks are extra unless specifically mentioned, so the bar bill adds up over three nights.
How to book it
Book directly with the hotel: rooms are held for 14 days, then a £750 non-refundable deposit confirms them. An extra night before or after New Year is 10% off. Children are welcome, and six rooms take dogs at £25 a dog a night.

The best-value party in the UK six. Two nights in a village inn looking across the River Coln, a black-tie five-course dinner and dancing into the early hours, for £635 each. The cottages, one with a hot tub, make it easy to bring friends without sharing a corridor.
Skip it if you need flexibility. All deposits and payments are 'non-refundable and non-transferable', so take out travel insurance the day you book.
How to book it
Book through Cotswold Inns & Hotels, which runs New Year at seven Cotswold hotels. The group's sister inns run close in price if The Swan is full: The Manor House has a black-tie dinner from £570 each.
The Swan's rates are 'per person, per stay based on two guests sharing a double/twin room', so a Classic Room for two is £1,270.

The calm coastal one, and cheap for three nights. Bedruthan sits on a hillside above Mawgan Porth beach with big windows on the sea, and this is its over-18s New Year: a paired-wine dinner, a band, fireworks and a hammam or spa garden session thrown in. The £1,395 is for a room without a sea view.
Skip it if you are travelling with children. This break is adults only; the hotel runs a separate family New Year.

Skip it if you are booking after 30 October. The balance falls due that day, and cancellations after it are charged in full.

Book directly or through a travel agent; a two-night minimum applies between 31 December and 2 January. Ask the hotel to confirm whether the rate is for the stay or per night: the offer lists it as a two-night rate, but its terms say 'per room/suite, per night'.

The dearest UK break and the most of an occasion. Grantley Hall holds two Michelin Keys, and the Gala Ball version of this package puts you at a shared table in black tie before fireworks and a piper at midnight. The next day is tastings, live music and a generous dinner allowance.
Skip it if you want a table to yourselves. Gala Ball guests sit at a shared table, and dining in the Michelin-starred restaurant is another £70 each.
How to book it
Book directly with the hotel and reserve restaurant tables when you book; send dietary needs at least seven days before. A discretionary 12.5% service charge goes on the bill, and the card must be in the name on the booking.

The splurge, and a rare thing to book: a category I seat for the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Eve concert in the Musikverein, four nights at a three-Key hotel opposite the State Opera, and dinner at the Sacher afterwards. It costs about three times the dearest UK package, so it is the one for a milestone.
Skip it if you want a party. This is concerts, a gala at the Spanish Riding School and a long dinner; nobody is dancing on the tables.

Book through La Fugue, which sells the package. Flights, transport and transfers are not included. Read La Fugue's terms of sale for payment and cancellation before you commit.

The easiest New Year abroad from London: train in, walk out of the door onto Dam Square, and have the big dinner of the night in the hotel's Wintergarden. Two nights with breakfast and dinner for two from €1,250 is fair for a grand hotel in the centre of Amsterdam on New Year's Eve.
Skip it if you dislike crowds or fireworks going off around you. Dam Square is the middle of the city, and the hotel has hundreds of rooms.

Skip it if you want more than one direct airline. Only easyJet flies Gatwick to Fiumicino non-stop, so look at other London airports if fares are high.

The best seat in the house for one of the world's great firework shows. Funchal's display was once Guinness's largest in the world and, last New Year, was fired from 58 points around the bay and boats. Savoy Palace's gala ends on the 17th floor, so you watch it from above with a glass in hand.
Skip it if you want one price that covers everything. The gala is sold per person and the room is extra, and no part of the payment is refundable.
How to book it
Book the gala through Savoy Palace's New Year's Eve page, then the room through the hotel's own booking engine. Cheaper options exist: the Galáxia Skybar party alone is €370 each, with fireworks access and an open bar.
Savoy Palace publishes the gala price per person; no 2026 stay package was published when we checked, so the room is on top. The Crystal Clear dinner in Galáxia Skyfood is €1,400 each.

What are some good New Year's Eve getaways in the UK?
Our six for 2026 are Dalhousie Castle near Edinburgh for a black-tie Hogmanay, Forest Side in Grasmere for an eight-course dinner, The Swan at Bibury for a black-tie party at £635 each, Bedruthan in Cornwall for a quiet adults-only stay, Coworth Park near Ascot, and Grantley Hall in Yorkshire for a Gala Ball. All include dinner and midnight celebrations.
Where is the best place to go for New Year?
In the UK, Edinburgh: the 2026/27 Hogmanay concert in Princes Street Gardens is headlined by Underworld, with fireworks from the castle at midnight and tickets from £79. Abroad, Funchal in Madeira has one of the biggest displays, fired last year from 58 points around the bay. For music, nothing beats the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Eve concert.
How to spend New Year's Eve as a couple?
Book a package where the dinner is the event and you are a staircase from bed. Forest Side's eight-course dinner with Champagne at midnight, the Krasnapolsky's dinner for two in Amsterdam, or Bedruthan's paired-wine dinner by the sea all work. If you want to dance, The Swan and Grantley Hall have black-tie parties.
When should you book a New Year's Eve break?
By October if you can. Melville Castle's 2026 package near Edinburgh is already fully booked and Cringletie House has one room type left. Balances fall due early: Grantley Hall's was 31 August, Coworth Park's is 30 October, Forest Side's 1 November and The Swan's 1 December, and most are non-refundable after that.
How much does a New Year's Eve break cost?
For two, our ten run from about £990 (one night with a rooftop party in Rome) to about £14,600 (four nights at the Sacher with the Vienna Philharmonic). UK house-party packages with every meal cost £1,270 at The Swan to £4,940 at Grantley Hall. Travel is extra.
Where can you see fireworks at midnight in the UK?
London's display on the Thames, ticketed since 2014, with 2026 tickets on sale from Friday 23 October, and Edinburgh, where fireworks go up from the castle. Many country hotels put on their own: Dalhousie Castle, Forest Side, Bedruthan, Coworth Park and Grantley Hall all include a midnight display.
Can you see the London fireworks from a hotel room?
Yes, but the packages are scarce and not yet priced. Sea Containers London offers a guaranteed view of the fireworks from your room, with Champagne before midnight, but did not publish a price or year when we checked. Shangri-La The Shard lists a New Year's Eve stay from USD 1,600 a night on average.
