The short answer

The best hotels in Thailand, in one paragraph

The best hotels in Thailand split into three kinds of trip: riverside grandeur in Bangkok, pool villas on the beaches of Phuket, Krabi and Koh Samui, and quiet retreats among the rice paddies and hills of the north. Our 2026 shortlist has 16 hotels, each holding two or three MICHELIN Keys in the 2026 Thailand selection. The most decorated are Capella Bangkok, Mandarin Oriental Bangkok and Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui. Pair Bangkok with one beach, and match the beach to the month: the Andaman coast is best from November to February, Koh Samui from late December.

Shortlisted means chosen on research: a Michelin Key or Forbes Travel Guide rating, or praise from two independent publications, each linked below. We have not stayed at these hotels yet. Read how we choose.

Questions people ask

The best hotels in Thailand, answered

What are the best hotels in Thailand in 2026?

Our 2026 shortlist has 16 hotels, each with two or three MICHELIN Keys. The six Three Key hotels in Thailand are all on it: Capella Bangkok, Mandarin Oriental Bangkok and The Siam in Bangkok, Amanpuri in Phuket, Phulay Bay in Krabi and Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai.

Where should I stay in Thailand for a first trip?

Two or three nights in Bangkok on the Chao Phraya river, then a beach. Choose Phuket, Phang Nga Bay or Krabi from November to February, or Koh Samui from late December into the spring. Add Chiang Mai if you want temples, food and cooler evenings rather than more sand.

Which Thai hotels have private pool villas?

Trisara and Rosewood Phuket give every suite or villa its own pool, as do Six Senses Yao Noi and Banyan Tree Samui. Amanpuri's villas all have pools, but not every pavilion does, and at Six Senses Samui most villas have one. Check the room type before you book.

When is the best time to visit Thailand's beaches?

The Andaman coast, Phuket, Phang Nga Bay and Krabi, is best from November to February, with rough seas and rain roughly from May to October. Koh Samui on the Gulf side is the opposite: wettest from late September to December, and at its best from late December, especially from February.

Are there festive season rules at Thai luxury hotels?

Often, yes. Several shortlisted hotels charge a compulsory gala dinner on Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve, ask for minimum stays or non-refundable deposits over the holidays, and some islands allow no arrivals on 31 December or 1 January. Read the festive terms before you book.

Have you stayed at these hotels?

Not yet. Every hotel on the 2026 list is Shortlisted on research. Hotels we stay at will carry the Stayed and verified stamp, and any hosted stay will be disclosed on the page.
