The short answer
What are the Amex Platinum benefits?
Amex Platinum benefits in the UK come in five groups: travel (1,550+ airport lounges, car hire status and a discount on long-haul premium fares), hotels (Fine Hotels + Resorts, The Hotel Collection and five hotel status tiers), dining (a £400-a-year restaurant credit), insurance (worldwide travel cover) and rewards (Membership Rewards points that move to 15 airline and hotel schemes). The card costs £650 a year.
Whether it pays depends on what you would use. The dining credit alone gives back £400 in cash if you claim all four halves; the rest is worth what you would otherwise have paid. Tick what you would really use in the calculator below and it will tell you. Amex benefits are spread across dozens of pages and the app, so we keep them here in one place, with a dated log of what changes.
We are not paid by American Express and there are no card application links on this page. This is a guide, not financial advice: check the current terms with Amex before you apply.
Does it pay for itself?
What Amex Platinum benefits are worth to you
Slide each benefit to what it would really save you this year. The dining credit starts full, because it is cash back. Everything else starts at nothing; the top of each slider is Amex's own estimate, which assumes you use it a lot.

What's changed
The change log
Amex adds, trims and quietly retires Platinum benefits through the year. We log every change we can confirm, newest first, with the date it took effect.

Not in the UK
US wellness benefits are not coming to the UK, yet
The new Oura, lululemon and Calm perks announced for the American Platinum card do not appear anywhere on Amex UK. If you have seen them in an email, check which country's card it was for.
Reported
Dining credit reportedly extended to 2029
Amex's own terms still say the £400 dining credit ends on 31 December 2026. Head for Points reports it has been quietly extended to June 2029. We will update this when Amex confirms.
Removed
Lufthansa lounges removed
Access to Lufthansa lounges through the Global Lounge Collection was reported to end on 1 October 2026, and Amex UK's lounge page no longer lists them.
Cut
One Centurion guest, not two
Centurion Lounges now admit one guest instead of two, and the guest has to be on the same flight.
Added
Six Senses London joins Fine Hotels + Resorts
Part of 351 additions to Fine Hotels + Resorts in 2026, alongside The Lake Como EDITION and Vermelho in Portugal.
Ended
The big welcome bonus ended

The benefit worth most
Fine Hotels + Resorts, explained
For travellers who stay in five-star hotels anyway, this is the one that does the heavy lifting. Book one of over a thousand hotels through Amex at the normal rate, and you get breakfast for two every morning, a US$100 credit to spend in the hotel, an upgrade when one is free, and a 4pm check-out that is guaranteed.
