The short answer
What is Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts?
Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts (Amex writes it Fine Hotels + Resorts, or FHR) is a set of luxury hotels that Platinum and Centurion cardmembers book through American Express Travel. The room rate is usually the hotel's own flexible rate. On top, every stay comes with breakfast for two each morning, a US$100 credit for the spa, bar or restaurant, Wi-Fi, a guaranteed 4pm check-out, and noon check-in and an upgrade when the hotel can.
Amex says the average stay is worth US$550 in extras. For anyone who stays at five-star hotels anyway, it is the most valuable thing on the Amex Platinum card. The catch: you can only book it with the card, and you have to be on the stay.

What it is worth
What a stay is worth to you
Slide to the length of your stay. We count only what Amex itself puts a number on: breakfast for two at its minimum of US$60 a day, and the US$100 credit once per stay. The 4pm check-out, the upgrade and the early room are on top, and at a London hotel breakfast for two often costs more than US$60.

- Breakfast for two
- US$120
- Hotel credit, once per stay
- US$100
- 4pm check-out, noon check-in, upgrade
- On top
- At least
- US$220
Amex's own average is US$550 for two nights, because breakfast at top hotels usually costs well over its minimum and upgrades are worth more than either.
The two programmes
Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection?
Amex runs a second, smaller programme, The Hotel Collection, which Gold cardholders can use too. The difference is breakfast, the guaranteed check-out and the two-night minimum.
| Rule | Fine Hotels + Resorts | The Hotel Collection |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum stay | None stated | Two consecutive nights or more |
| Property credit | US$100 towards eligible charges (varies by property) | US$100 towards eligible charges, charged to the room, applied at check-out |

| Check-in | 12pm check-in, when available | 12pm check-in, when available |
| Check-out | Guaranteed 4pm check-out | Late check-out, when available |
| Room upgrade | On arrival when available; some room categories excluded | On arrival when available; some room categories excluded |
| Wi-Fi | Complimentary | Not listed |
| Who can book | Platinum, Business Platinum and Centurion members; booked and paid with the eligible Card | Preferred Rewards Gold (charge and credit), Business Gold, Platinum, Business Platinum and Centurion; excludes Platinum Credit Companion cards |
| Room limit | Not stated on the page read | Benefits per room, per stay, up to three rooms |

How to book it
Booking Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts, step by step
- Find the hotel's own price first. Check the hotel's website for the flexible rate, and note any member or prepaid rate.
- Search Amex Travel. Sign in to Amex Travel's Fine Hotels + Resorts page and look for the FHR label on the hotel. Some hotels add a third or fourth night free on top.
- Compare like with like. If the FHR rate is within about US$60 a night of the direct flexible rate, the breakfasts alone cover it.
- Pay with the Platinum card and travel yourself. The cardmember has to be on the stay. Up to three rooms can be booked with the benefits.
- Ask about the credit at check-in. Each hotel decides what the US$100 covers: usually the restaurant, bar or spa.
Amex Travel or Platinum Travel Services take the booking; for help, Amex says to call the number on the back of your card. We are not paid by American Express and there are no card links on this page.
Questions
Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts, answered
What is Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts?
Fine Hotels + Resorts is a collection of over a thousand luxury hotels you book through American Express Travel with a Platinum or Centurion card. On each stay you get noon check-in and an upgrade when available, breakfast for two every day, a US$100 credit to spend in the hotel, Wi-Fi and a guaranteed 4pm check-out.
Is there a list of Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts hotels?
Amex lists them on Amex Travel by destination, but there is no single published list. Our finder above has 68 UK hotels we read as FHR on Amex Travel on 20 October 2026, and the 102 FHR hotels abroad that we have already reviewed.
Who can book Fine Hotels + Resorts in the UK?
Holders of the Platinum Card, Business Platinum and Centurion. The booking must be paid with that card and the cardmember must be on the stay, so you cannot book it for a friend travelling alone. The Platinum Credit Companion card does not qualify.
Is the Fine Hotels + Resorts rate more expensive?
Usually it matches the hotel's own flexible rate, though it can be a little higher, and it rarely beats a hotel's member, prepaid or flash-sale rate. Compare the total before you book: on most stays the breakfasts and the credit more than cover any difference.
How much is Fine Hotels + Resorts worth per stay?
Amex puts the average at US$550 for a two-night stay, based on its 2025 bookings. Breakfast for two is valued at a minimum of US$60 a day, plus the US$100 credit and the 4pm check-out.
What is the difference between Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection?
The Hotel Collection needs a stay of two nights or more and has no breakfast; check-out is late only when available. It is also open to Gold cardholders. Fine Hotels + Resorts has no minimum stay, includes breakfast for two and guarantees 4pm check-out.
Do back-to-back Fine Hotels + Resorts stays get the credit twice?
No. Stays at the same hotel within 24 hours of each other count as one stay, so the US$100 credit and the upgrade come once.
Can I earn hotel points on a Fine Hotels + Resorts booking?
Often yes at Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt and Four Seasons-style chains, because Amex Travel books through the hotel; it depends on the hotel and the chain's own rules. You earn Membership Rewards points on the card spend either way.
